Doris L. Bouldin, a cherished member of the Linden community, was Born on May 24, 1942, in Kinston North Carolina. Doris lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication to improving the lives of those around her.
Doris built a rewarding career, dedicating over 25 years to the Linden Public School System before her retirement in 2019. Her compassion for special education children and the developmentally disabled shone brightly in her work, leaving an unforgettable mark on students and families alike. Doris also lent her talents to the Woodbridge Development Center and the Board of Elections, always eager to make a difference in her community.
Her educational journey began in the Kinston, North Carolina Public School System, culminating in her graduation from Savannah High School in 1960. Doris was a proud Majorette during her high school years, participating in every athletic game and parade. Doris later pursued higher education at Essex County College in Newark, earning her AAS degree in Early Childhood Education in 1978. Persistently seeking knowledge, she transferred her credits to Kean University in 1980, focusing on a degree in Sociology.
Doris's enthusiasm for life extended far beyond her professional achievements. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Linden, NJ, for over 40 years, where she served on the Outreach Ministry, Nurse's Aide, Willing Workers, Emergency Choir, Women's Day Committee, and even served as Women's Day Chairperson. Even when health challenges kept her from attending in person, Doris remained connected to her church family, participating virtually and maintaining her unwavering faith.
In her leisure time, Doris found joy in participating in various community activities, including organizing bus rides to Wildwood and other beloved destinations. She became an original member of the Linden Dr. Martin Luther King Commemorative Committee and helped raise funds for the MLK Monument located in Linden's 4th Ward Park, an accomplishment that she held close to her heart.
Doris was an avid dancer and would be the first one to hit the dance floor when the music begun. During the Heritage Cultural Festival, she would Tribute an inspiring dance to the African culture.
Doris was a devoted mother to her two children, Jennifer Denise Givens and James Aaron Bouldin, and welcomed her caring son-in-law, Gary Givens, into her family with open arms. Her three beloved grandchildren, Jordan A. Givens, Jalon M. Belton, and Jaylin A. Bouldin, brought her immense joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
She leaves behind her supportive sister, Ella B. Brooks of Roanoke, VA, and a brother-in-law, Lynwood King of NC, who will surely miss her warmth and kindness. Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Bouldin Jr., as well as her parents, Mildred L. Williams and Sam Bright. Doris also cherished the memory of her late sister, Janie E. King, and her grandfather, Dan Williams, who played a pivotal role in her upbringing.
The legacy of Doris L. Bouldin will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Doris’s spirit, rich with love and compassion, will continue to inspire all who were touched by her remarkable journey.
