Obituary

In Loving Memory of Eddie Ray Green

Some love stories are loud and dramatic.

Eddie Ray Green’s love story was steady, faithful, and unshakable.

On December 10, 2025, at the age of 81, Eddie peacefully transitioned, leaving behind a legacy of love, gentleness, and quiet strength that will live on through generations.

Born on January 10, 1944, in Prosperity, South Carolina, Eddie was the son of the late Eddie Green and Willie Mae Oxner Green. He was raised in a close-knit, faith-filled community and nurtured at Mt. Moriah AME Church, where the values of compassion, humility, and service were planted deep in his spirit.

At the center of Eddie’s life was the love of his life and devoted wife of 56 years, Agnes Green. Their marriage stood as a beautiful testament to patience, loyalty, and unwavering commitment. Agnes was Eddie’s heart, his home, and his greatest blessing. Together, they built a life rooted in love, mutual respect, and family, a bond that time could not weaken.

Eddie was a proud and deeply loving father to his daughters, Jacquetta Brown and Veronica Rose. He adored his girls and loved them fiercely, yet gently, leading with wisdom, patience, and a quiet strength that made them feel safe, supported, and cherished.

Children were naturally drawn to Eddie. He had a special gentleness with them a calm, patient spirit that made every child feel seen and valued. All the kids loved him, drawn to his warmth and steady presence, sensing the kindness that flowed so naturally from him.

Eddie later made his home in Linden, New Jersey, where he faithfully served for over 30 years at the Municipal Garage, earning the respect of coworkers and the community through integrity, dependability, and pride in honest work.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures collecting baseball cards and playing marbles as a boy, watching sports, cheering passionately for his beloved New York Yankees, trying his luck with the lottery, and tending to his garden. These were the quiet moments that reflected who Eddie truly was.

Those who knew Eddie will remember his calming presence, gentle spirit, and unfailing kindness. He never forgot a birthday, was always willing to help family and friends, and consistently chose harmony over conflict. In a world that can be loud and restless, Eddie was peace.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Green and Willie Mae Oxner Green, and by his beloved siblings: Mamie Tyler, Dorothy Abney, Lillie R. Wise, Perline DeWalt, and Willie “WC” Hair.

Eddie leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love through his devoted wife, Agnes Green; his cherished children, Jacquetta Brown (Kevin Brown, Sr.) of South Plainfield, NJ, and Veronica Rose (Anthony Rose) of Colonia, NJ; his beloved grandson, Kevin Brown Jr. of South Plainfield, NJ; his loving siblings Evelyn McMillan of Lawton, OK; Ettie Frye of Rahway, NJ; Barbara Gaines of Renton, WA; Bertha Sanabia of East Brunswick, NJ; and Jimmy Green (Joanne Green) of Conyers, GA; and his beloved sister-in-law, Annie Ruth Hair, age 96, widow of his late brother Willie “WC” Hair; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed by his steady presence.

Eddie Ray Green lived a life of quiet devotion, faithful love, and steady grace. He didn’t need to raise his voice his life spoke volumes.

Rest peacefully, Eddie.

Your love remains, and your legacy lives on.
