Nanci Michelle Carter-Gordon, affectionately known as “Michelle”, was born on March 22, 1967, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was the eighth of nine children to the late Jeanie Lee Carter. She passed away on May 14, 2025, and was laid to rest in her eternal home. In 1995, Michelle married the love of her life. Together, they raised six beautiful children. Michelle was a cherished wife to the late Patrick Gordon Sr., a beloved mother, dedicated grandmother, loving sister, and compassionate friend. She was a lifelong resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey, and received her education from the Elizabeth school system.Michelle spent her early years as a devoted housewife, nurturing and caring for her husband and children. Until her health declined and compelled her into early retirement, Michelle was a dedicated cashier at ShopRite in Elizabeth.Michelle was a beacon of light in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on Earth was characterized by love, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to God. Her strength and resilience were widely admired. Despite being a double amputee, she continued to find the strength to care for those in need. As the youngest resident of her senior building, she served as a maternal figure to most. Nanci’s meticulous attention to fashion earned her the cute nickname “Fancy Nanci.” She enjoyed doing all sorts of fun things like shopping, arts and crafts, organizing family gatherings, cooking, taking care of her family and friends. Her absolute favorite thing to do was cheer on her grandchildren from the sidelines and spend quality time with them. Michelle is predeceased by her mother, Jeanie Lee Carter; her husband, Patrick Mark Sr.; her sister, Sharon Carter; her brothers, Revered Ronald Carter Sr., Donald Carter, and nephew, Ronald Carter Jr.Michelle Carter is survived by her six children: Antoine Carter, Itaya Carter, Patrick Gordon II, Jasmine Gordon, Tynequa Gordon, and Samad Gordon. Six grandchildren: Na’Ji Daniels, Zaniah Gordon, Jheki Gordon, Jasiah Gordon, Caleb Gai, and Patrick Gordon III. Two brothers, Lawrence Carter (Pam) and Robert Carter (Alethia), Three sisters, Jacqueline Carter, Ruth Carter, and Deborah Carter-Strickland (Larry). Her mother-in-law, Gloria Gordon, who was dear to her. Her sister-in-law Mary Gordon, and her brother-in-law Charles Gordon. She was also surrounded by a host of nieces and nephews, as well as her sisterfriends Ansley Thomas, Carla Howard, and Zena Thomas.
