Obituary
Samuel Sims was born to the late Bertha Flood and J.C. Sims in Brooklyn, NY on July 16, 1958. He attended Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn and took classes in accounting at Pace University in Manhattan. Sam grew up in the borough of Brooklyn. He was the middle child of 5 siblings. In high school he played in all 3 sports - football, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed the company of his best friends, Jimmy Quintana (Late) and Harold Spencer. They all played street basketball together and were pretty fierce on the courts. He was a huge Jets, Lakers and Yankee fan. Sam always had a love for numbers. So accounting was his muse. He worked on the Street (Wall Street) very early in his career. He worked at all the once big organizations in the early 90s (Bradford Trust, Paine Webber and many others). Later he landed at MetLife and worked there for 15 years. Unfortunately, life takes a turn and that is when he became unemployed. But of course that did not stop Sam from continuing to work his career. He worked every accounting job no matter how near or far, to provide for his family. Then along comes his final destination, Namely/Vensure. He had planned to retire in November of this year. Sam also enjoyed the company of his family, particularly his wife Patrice. They would go out on date night every Friday, for pizza and then wine and flowers from Trader Joes. He enjoyed playing ball and having intellectual conversations with his sons, Sammy and Chris. He especially enjoyed barbecuing for his close family and friends and having fun with his grandchildren, Jayden, Laila and Nova. Sam enjoyed his annual trips with his wife, children and grandchildren to Atlantic City and Disney World. He spent much time with our second family in Florida (Quintana’s). God called Sam home Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025 at 3:22am. He was surrounded by his family (wife, son’s and sister-in-law). Sam is survived by his loving wife, Patrice, his children Samuel (Alana), Christopher (Shantia), his sister Patricia (John), brothers James and John, his sister-in-law Edna (Mildred) and brother-in-law Raymond (Makeeya). He leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Jasmine, Jayden, Laila and Nova and 1 great-grandson, Malik, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that are family.
